Alcohol reported a factor in motorcycle versus car accident in Valley Springs

A motorcycle versus car collision in Valley Springs resulted in major injuries Monday afternoon. CHP reports that just before 4 pm, Eugene Hughes of Valley Springs was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle while intoxicated on westbound Highway 12 east of Evans Road behind several vehicles including Ana Hernandez-Baron, also of Valley Springs. Hernandez slowed her car to a stop and started to turn to the left. Meanwhile, Hughes had driven over the double yellow lines to pass slower cars and swerved back to the right when he saw that Hernandez was turning. He hit the rear corner of her car, then continued off the roadway edge and overturned, ejecting him from the Harley. Hughes was seriously injured in the accident and was flown from the scene to Memorial Medical Center. Hughes was subsequently arrested for DUI.
