Suspects in Custody After Eight Vehicle Burglaries at Valley Springs Ball Park

Eight Valley Springs vehicles were burglarized Monday night and two suspects are now in custody.  According to reports from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, just after 10 pm, deputies responded to reports of burglaries of unlocked cars at the Jenny Lind Veterans Memorial Ball Park in Valley Springs.  Victims discovered the thefts after finishing a softball game.  One victim reported that his $600.00 pool cue had been stolen, and he had followed a woman leaving the park with a pool cue to a nearby apartment on Pine Street.  At the apartment, deputies identified 27 year-old Sara Riddle of Valley Springs and her boyfriend 33 year-old Patrick Elkins, also of Valley Springs.  Elkins led deputies to where the pool cue and a majority of property stolen from vehicles at the ball field were stashed in the apartment.  Additionally, other property was discovered that may be related to other thefts reported in the area.  Riddle and Elkins were arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges of Petty Theft, and Possession of Stolen Property.
