New Building Fees For Ione

New Building Fees For Ione

The Ione city council worked on a new set of building fees and weighed in on a pair of state initiatives at their meeting last night.  The Council worked on an update to the Ione building and plan check fees which are collected to pay for the city's review of new construction.   As the fees haven't been updated for some 18 years, the increased proposed by staff was quit large ranging from 50% to 80% in some instances.  Several Council-members objected to putting such a large increase into effect and discussed several alternatives, before directing staff to move forward with a smaller increase and to change the method used to calculated fees.  The revised version of the update will return to Council for a final vote.   The Council also approved the rezoning of a property on West Market Street. The new designation will allow an existing church building, which has not been in operation for two decades, to be converted to a residence.   The Council also weighed in on a two Statewide Propositions up for a vote in next month's election.  The Council approved resolutions urging no votes on Proposition 57, which allows increased parole opportunities for convicts in the state and Proposition 64 which would legalize Marijuana for recreational use Statewide.
