Carjacker To Undergo Psychiatric Evaluation

Carjacker To Undergo Psychiatric Evaluation

The man who carjacked a vehicle in West Point and then a couple of days later led a high speed pursuit that ended in a truck driver with major injuries has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Zachary Gomez was arrested on October 11th after the pursuit, which caused a big rig hauling lime to crash, causing partial closure of Highway 49 and major injuries to the driver. According to reports, when it was time for him to go to court last week, he refused to leave the jail and go to court. So, Judge Grant Barrett assigned a public defender and prosecutor to attempt an arraignment at the jail. Gomez again did not cooperate because he thought it was a military proceeding. Barrett then ordered a psychiatrist to examine Barrett to see if he is competent to stand trial.
