More Details Released In Double Fatal Crash

More details have been released in the double fatal car crash in Calaveras County yesterday. The crash happened around 3pm on Murphys Grade Road east of Fairview Park Court. According to the CHP, 29 year old Christopher Dunivant of Angels Camp was driving eastbound on Murphys Grade Road when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his car, allowing it to cross into oncoming traffic. 75 year old Charles Gates of Sonora, who was coming the other direction, tried to avoid a collision but couldn’t and his vehicle slammed into the right side of Dunivant’s. Despite the efforts by emergency personnel, Dunivant and a passenger in Gates’ car, 79 year old Ellen Carlson of Sonora, were pronounced dead at the scene. Gates, as well as 73 year old Judith Gates and 53 year old Randy Gates were all taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. The CHP is still investigating the crash and asks anyone with information to call them at 754-3541.
