Fire Season Over In The TCU

Fire Season Over In The TCU

Due to the recent rains and cooler temperatures, the Tuolumne-Calaveras CAL Fire Unit has transitioned out of peak fire season.  Unit Chief Josh White said the season has been very dynamic and that he is proud of the work done by all of the firefighters in TCU and is also thankful for all citizens who helped prevent fires and maintained the defensible space around their properties.  The transition now means many seasonal firefighters will be released, and the Air Attack base at Columbia will be quiet over the winter months.  Statewide, there were 5,636 wildfires that burned 147,327 acres in the State Responsibility Area during the 2016 fire season.  In the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, CAL Fire responded to 198 fires that charred 2,292 acres.  CAL Fire will continue to monitor the weather conditions and has the ability to increase staffing should weather conditions change.
