The Forest Tree Mortality Initiative

The Forest Tree Mortality Initiative

Calaveras County officials want to remind residents of new federal funding to help with removal of dead trees. The Forest Tree Mortality Initiative is focused on removing dead trees on larger, severely damaged, private forestlands. Interested applicants will need to develop a Forest Management Plan for their forestland property. You need to have at least an acre that is at least 100 feet wide and has 20% of the conifer population dead from drought or beetles. You will need to come up with a forest management plan. They won’t cover removal of trees within 100 feet of your home. They may cover things like treating or removing woody residue from dead or dying trees, thinning overstocked forest stands and tree planting. You can contact 800-738-8733.
