Man Arrested for RV Fire

Calaveras Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man accused of setting fire to a custom mobile home after an argument over a power bill. Emergency personnel responded to a report of a vehicle fire at around 3:20 this (yesterday) morning on Nickerson Lane in Murphys. They arrived to see an RV fully engulfed in flames and witnesses who saw a man running from it. Deputies learned that an argument arose between the RV owner and the tenant, 45 year old Quinn Morgan Shields, over an unpaid electricity bill resulting from a registered marijuana grow site. The owner asked Shields to leave and then, sometime later people saw him fleeing the burning RV. Shields later showed up at the Sheriff’s Office asking to speak to a detective and was arrested for his alleged involvement in the arson investigation of the motorhome. The RV is described as a custom built 1949 Chevrolet, valued at $30,000. The case is still under investigation.
