Sutter Creek Welcomes New Police Chief

Sutter Creek Welcomes New Police Chief

The City of Sutter Creek swore in a new Police Chief at last night’s meeting of the city council. The council oversaw the swearing in of new Police Chief James O’Connell. O’Connell retired as Police Captain with the city of Vallejo Police Department last year after a 22 year career with that city. The ceremony was attended by the new Chiefs family and friends as well as law enforcement officers from around the county. O’Connell praised the four officers of the department he now assumes command over, and pledged to live up to the trust the city and council had placed in him. Sutter Creek has struggled to find a Police Chief since Phil Han retired from the position in April of 2015. Recently the city has contracted with the County Sheriff’s Department for a Sheriff Captain to cover Chief duties with the city on a part-time basis. Mayor Tim Murphy read a proclamation honoring the arrangement and thanking Amador Sheriff Martin Ryan for his help to the city.
