Jackson Man To Face Second-Degree Murder Charges

A Jackson man charged in Calaveras County with second-degree murder for the vehicle accident that killed his 4-year-old son will face trial. 31 year old Tyler Nichols is accused of driving while intoxicated on Aug. 2nd.  His son Jace was critically injured when Nichols lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. The young boy later died at a hospital.  On Monday, both Nichol’s attorney and the Calaveras DA’s office requested Judge Grant Barrett schedule a three-day trial to begin on April 19th.  Barrett granted that request.  In addition to the murder charge, Nichols also faces four other counts related to drunk driving and special allegations that he was convicted of drunk driving in Amador County in 2007 and was also convicted of domestic violence in 2006 and 2014, and convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm in 2011. Nichols pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. He remains in jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
