Forest Service Roads Closed For The Winter

A large number of US Forest Service roads closed for the winter today. The Eldorado National Forest has implemented their annual seasonal closure of dirt roads. Rainfall, soil moisture, trail conditions and weather forecasts are all factors that go into the decision to close these roads anytime before the normal closure date of January 1st. This year it’s recent rains and more in the forecast. The idea is to protect roadbeds and watersheds from damage and to protect water quality from muddy runoff. You can find a map of the closed roads at www.fs.usda.gov/eldorado. The roads will stay closed until at least April 1st.
