CHP Snares Trailer Thieves

CHP Snares Trailer Thieves

Two people were arrested for allegedly stealing a trailer and then trying to sell it on social media. The San Andreas CHP office was contacted by the victim of a trailer theft, who said their 2003 HH utility trailer, which was stolen in August, was listed for sale on a popular Facebook “for sale” page. Investigators had the victims arrange with the seller to meet at the San Andreas DMV office to facilitate the sale. 30-year-old Kelsea Galloway of San Andreas and 38-year-old David Knaak of San Andreas showed up to sell the trailer. Galloway said she owned the trailer and Knaak said he improved it. After some investigative work, the CHP determined the people who reported the theft were the real owners. Both suspects were arrested at the scene and booked for Vehicle Theft and Possession of Stolen Property. Investigators noticed that the Vehicle Identification Numbers, or VIN, had been altered and they remind everyone to thoroughly check vehicle registration, even on a trailer, before buying it.
