Copperopolis Man Arrested For Car Theft

A Copperopolis man was arrested for stealing a car, while his friend is still on the loose. It happened in Sonora on Christmas morning, when officers were sent to an apartment complex for a report of a suspicious vehicle with its doors open. Officers found that this car along with four others in the complex had been tampered with and about $1,500 in items were stolen. They also learned that two vehicles had been stolen, so they issued an alert to local law enforcement. The CHP found one of the cars and 18 year old Dakota Smiley of Copperopolis and arrested him on felony charges. The second car was also found, but was unoccupied. Police are looking for the other suspect, believed to be a Tuolumne City resident.
