Snow Is Here In The Gold Country

Snow is here in the Gold Country, dropping down below Pine Grove this morning before rising to slightly higher elevations. Road crews are plowing main roadways at regular intervals but that doesn’t mean they will be completely safe to drive. So, the CHP has some winter driving tips that you should listen to. First, before you leave make sure your tires are in good shape, your windshield wipers, defroster and heater are working and you have plenty of gas. Always carry chains, even if you have four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Once you set out on the roadway, keep in mind the roads can be slippery even after being plowed. Take some extra time and slow down so you have time to react to things. Stay alert to changing conditions. If you need to use your brakes, use them gently so you don’t lose traction. And finally, if you do break down or slide off of the roadway, stay off of the roadway, preferably in your car where it’s warm. Conserve fuel if you are going to be stuck for awhile and be alert to possible carbon monoxide problems.
