Assembly Bill To Hold State Accountable For Fire Fees

Assembly Bill To Hold State Accountable For Fire Fees

Legislators that represent our local area want the state to be accountable for where they spend fire fees. Assemblyman Frank Bigelow and Senator Tom Berryhill introduced Assembly Bill 211 recently. If approved, the bill would require a detailed annual accounting of how State Responsibility Area Fire Prevention Fees are spent. The controversial program levies a $150 per year fee on parcels within designated state responsibility areas. It is supposed to be used for fire prevention services like fuel reduction activities, defensible space inspections and emergency evacuation planning.
