Chase Leads To Arrest
The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office arrested a 24 year old man who burglarized a water treatment plant, stole a truck and led authorities on a lengthy pursuit Monday. Deputies responded to the report of a burglary at at the Calaveras County Water District Water Treatment Plant on Campbell Road in Valley Springs. Tools and a 2008 Ford F-350 truck with a utility bed had been stolen. Later that afternoon, deputies located the truck on Quail Oaks Road and tried to make a traffic stop. The driver initially pulled over but then drove away when deputies exited their vehicle and approached the truck. The driver pulled over and drove away two more times during the pursuit, which lasted more than an hour before law enforcement terminated it for safety reasons. The truck and the stolen property were later located on Lakeview Drive in Valley Springs. A witness told deputies the driver had fled into a wooded area nearby. Deputies found the suspect, 24-year-old Octavio Hernandez, being detained by a citizen at Hillvale Drive and Kitty Hawk Court. Deputies arrested Hernandez on suspicion of burglary, receiving stolen property and reckless evasion of a peace officer.
