String Of Collisions Shuts Down Highway 88

A string of collisions on Highway 88 caused numerous injuries, some serious, and blocked the Highway for some time in Tuesday. The crash occurred east of the Kirkwood Inn. 23 year old Maria Gonzalez and her 5 passengers were traveling westbound when, for unknown reasons, Gonzalez allowed her vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with a snow bank. Right after that, 58 year old Karen Carver of Chico came upon the scene and for unknown reasons collided with Gonzalez’s vehicle, leaving both vehicles disabled in the roadway. Then, two other drivers came upon the scene and steered into the snow bank to avoid the collision. Between Gonzalez’s car and Carvers car eight people suffered minor to major injuries. Seven of the victims were transported by ground ambulance to Barton Hospital, one of them, a 4 year old girl, was flown by life flight to Renown Reno Hospital in Reno. Because of the number of vehicles involved and the number of emergency personnel on the Highway, the road was closed for several hours.
