Fire Damages Ione Home

Ione area firefighters were called out just before 5:30 Saturday evening to a structure fire.  According to Ione Fire Chief Ken Mackey, fire fighters responded to a residential structure fire at 20 Wilda Ct. in the City of Ione.Upon arrival crews found an active fire in the kitchen extending to the rest of the house.  Mackey said fire crews made an aggressive attack and were able to quickly contain the fire, but extensive heat and smoke damage affected the remainder of the home.  No one was at home at the time of the fire but crews did rescue one dog but the families two house cats perished.  Mackey reported, 22 fire personnel, 7 Engines and 1 Ladder Truck responded from the City of Ione Fire Department, Mule Creek Fire Dept, Jackson Valley Fire, Sutter Creek Fire, Amador Fire Battalion 20 and Cal Fire.  The Cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and the estimated fire damage was reported at $80,000. The American Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
