Panther Fuels Reduction and Forest Service Project

Panther Fuels Reduction and Forest Service Project

Local residents have an opportunity to learn about and comment on a major US Forest Service project that will impact the local area. The Panther Fuels Reduction and Forest Health Project proposes to reduce unnaturally high fuel loads, decrease the likelihood of future large scale wildfire, improve forest health, and maintain system roads in the area between Panther Creek Road and Ellis Road. The 5,400-acre project area is located south of Highway 88 and north of the 2004 Power Fire area in Amador County. Proposed activities include strategic fuel breaks, commercial harvest units, and road maintenance and reconstruction. The Eldorado National Forest will host a public meeting at the Amador Ranger District Office on Wednesday, March 8, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM to discuss the project. For a detailed project description, including maps, and the Environmental Assessment, visit fs.usda.gov. The Amador Ranger District Office is located at 26820 Silver Drive, in Pioneer.
