PG&E To Offer Special Rate For Cannabis Growers

While recreational marijuana cultivation is temporarily banned in Amador County and a ban will be on a special ballot in Calaveras County, if ultimately it is decided that commercial production will be allowed in the local area, growers will get a special rate on their power bills. PG&E, following the passage of Prop 64 that allows the state to license and regulate recreational cultivation, has announced that customers are eligible for agricultural energy rates if they have received a permit from their local jurisdiction for the cultivation of cannabis and meet other criteria as far as energy use. The rate does not apply to people who grow for medicinal purposes in their own home, but it could apply to licensed medical marijuana growers in some circumstances.
