Amador Planning Commission Approves Youth Camp Permit

Amador Planning Commission Approves Youth Camp Permit

The Amador Planning Commission has approved the permit for an annual youth camp in the up-country.  The youth camp sponsored by the West Point Community Covenant Church, has actually been operating from decades but has only recently been required to apply to the County for permits.  The camp runs six days and has up to one hundred participants once per year, using a number of historic buildings on the site, located on Panther Creek Road just off of Highway 88.  The main issues discussed were the need to bring electricity and potable water to the site.  After voting to approve the permit, the Camp sponsors were urged to seek help from local service organizations to help pay for the needed improvements.  It was also the first Commission meeting of the year, so new officers were elected District II representative Dave Wardall was elected Chair and District III representative Caryl Callsen was elected Vice-Chair.  The Commission also approved a two-year extension of a parcel map to divide up four parcels of land in the Pioneer area, and recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve a variance to allow construction of a single family home in the Fiddletown area.
