New Bio-Manufacturing Plant Proposed For Valley Springs

A new biomanufacturing plant proposed for Valley Springs is getting some attention from the locals. Confluence Energy LLC, a renewable energy producer based in Colorado, wants to build the plant at the site of the old Calaveritas Redwood plant on Paloma Road. The company says they will employ up to 34 people to turn bark beetle trees and other forest materials into wood pulp and a charcoal-like product. They want to purchase 15 to 20 acres of land from the pre-existing industrially zoned 283-acre parcel for its new plant and will take advantage of the former lumber facility that’s already on the parcel. Two town hall meetings were held recently and received questions from the public mostly about noise and truck traffic. County officials are working through approvals now and, if all goes well, the plant could be up and running by November.
