Calaveras Transit To Take Efficiency Measures

With ridership declining, Calaveras Transit reports some efficiency measures they are taking are helping with revenues. Calaveras Transit presented their latest numbers to the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors last week. They show that fixed-route ridership is down 13 percent from the same time last year, a total of about 2,600 fewer passenger trips. Operating costs per passenger increased 23 percent and subsidies by 25 percent. They also reported their fare box recovery ratio is about 8 percent, lower than their target of 10 percent. The good news is that operating costs have declined significantly, and the organization has rolled out some more route and schedule changes targeted toward increasing their fare box return levels.
