Argonaut High Welcomed Secretary Of State

Argonaut High Welcomed Secretary Of State

Argonaut High School welcomed California Secretary of State Alex Padilla on Monday morning, who addressed a student assembly and urged students to register to vote and participate in elections. Padilla, who serves as the State's chief election official, spoke to Juniors and Seniors from both Amador and Argonaut High School at Mustang Gym, talking about his own life, how he got into politics, and urging the students to register and vote in order to help improve their communities. Padilla touted a new California law that now allows 16 and 17-year olds to pre-register, so that they can vote as soon as they turn 18. Padilla also took questions from the students, explaining what, exactly, the Secretary of State does, and laying out voting options for students if they move out of state for college. Padilla also attended the dedication of a new flagpole on the Argonaut campus.  After the assembly, Amador County Election officials signed up students to register to vote.  For more information on voter registration visit www.sos.ca.gov.
