83-Year-Old Woman and Calaveras Deputies Assaulted

A Valley Springs man allegedly assaulted an 83-year-old woman and injured two Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies before six law enforcement officers were able to subdue him Thursday night. According to Calaveras County Sheriff’s Sergeant Anthony Eberhardt, deputies responded to a 911 call at 11:45 pm Thursday on La Contenta Drive in Valley Springs for an 83-year-old woman who said 38-year-old Jeffrey Alan Greg had strangled and assaulted her. The woman locked herself in her bedroom, but the suspect kicked the door in. She was able to escape the house and call 911. By the time CHP and CCSO deputies arrived, Greg barricaded himself in a room and refused to exit. After they tried to negotiate with Greg, deputies forced entry. It took four Sheriff’s deputies and two CHP officers to subdue the man and two deputies were injured in the struggle. The deputies and Greg were transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment. Greg admitted he was under the influence of a controlled substance and is in jail on $1.2 million dollars bail. The 83-year-old victim received medical treatment on scene and was released.
