Fatal Drunk Driving Motorcycle Crash In Calaveras

A Bakersfield man died in an apparent drunk driving motorcycle crash in Calaveras County over the weekend. It happened at 4:10 Sunday afternoon on highway 49 south of Red Hill Road. According to the CHP, 61 year old Steven Cosper of Bakersfield was passing other vehicles on his motorcycle at around 60 miles an hour and lost control. The motorcycle left the roadway and overturned several times, ejecting Cosper. Passersby and emergency personnel tried to resuscitate him, but he died at the scene. The CHP says Cosper was wearing a helmet, but it was not a DOT approved one, and they believe alcohol contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
