Jackson Fire Update As Of 11:30 am

A commercial fire alarm sounded around 1:30 this morning on Main Street in Jackson.  When fire crews arrived they discovered multiple buildings were affected.  The major fire damage was in the area of Richard and Sherry's and the newly renovated Lucas Restaurant.  There was also considerable smoke damage at Main Street Emporium and at Gold Mine Jewelers.  In addition to battling the fire, emergency crews began immediately evacuating the residents from 4 apartments on the second floor above Richard and Sherry’s and Main Street Emporium.  Some knew there was a fire, and others were sleeping and didn’t know the fire was below them.  Nine people were evacuated to area hotels with the help of the Red Cross.  None of the residents were injured.   According to Jackson Fire, approximately 25 fire personnel responded to the fire from Jackson Fire, Ione Fire, CalFire and Suttter Creek Fire.  Jackson PD and Amador County Sheriff deputies also responded along with City of Jackson Public Works and the City Building inspector.  As of this report, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
