Fatal Highway 49 Accident

Fatal Highway 49 Accident

Highway 49 was shut down just after 3pm yesterday afternoon following a fatal motorcycle accident. According to the CHP, Jared Salisbury of Idaho Falls, ID was riding his motorcycle with three other motorcyclists southbound on Highway 49, in the “13 curves”, south of the Mokelumne River.   Salisbury had just passed a southbound vehicle when he lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected onto the roadway.  John Maberry of Auburn was traveling northbound on 49, approaching the group in his pickup truck.   Both Salibury and his motorcycle slid into the northbound traffic lane and collided with the front of Maberry’s vehicle.  Salibury was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Highway was reopened to traffic just before 6 last night.  Alcohol and/or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the collision which is still under investigation.
