Ione City Council Agenda Items

The Ione City Council worked on a variety of items at its meeting last night, including a major sewer system project and working on the city’s budget. The council approved the awarding of a construction contract for the lining of four sewer treatment ponds at the city’s waste-water plant. Council members expressed concern over the vote, as only one construction firm had bid on the project, and that bid came in a little more than $100,000 greater than the estimated cost of the project. But with the city of Ione facing potential fines from State Water Quality Authorities, and running out of time to complete the project before the next rainy season, the council voted to award the contract. The project will be paid for with a combination of Mule Creek Prison Expansion Mitigation Funds and the city’s own sewer infrastructure funds. The council worked on a draft of the city’s budget for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. The city’s general fund will raise and spend 2.1 million dollars this year, with a projected surplus of just $4,000. In other business, the council approved a new fence for a dog park to be built at Howard Park.
