Prepare For Excessive Heat This Weekend

Prepare For Excessive Heat This Weekend

The Amador County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services urges residents to be prepared for a weekend of excessive heat the national weather service has forecasted daytime highs in the foothills will range from 102 to 108 this afternoon through Sunday. Protect yourself and others from the impact of the heat wave by limiting strenuous outdoor activities, finding shade, staying hydrated and remember to never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle. Also please check up on elderly or sick friends or neighbors that don’t have air conditioning. Water and boating safety at nearby lakes and reservoirs is equally important. Extreme safety precautions should be taken near rivers as they are running cold and fast due to the melting snowpack. Approximately 70% of all boating fatality accidents result from drowning, and almost 85% of those who drown are not wearing a life jacket. Remember that having a lifejacket on board will not save lives, but wearing one does. For those looking for locations to get out of the heat, the Amador OES suggest the following: Any of the libraries, the Senior Center Mon-Fri 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Sutter Amador Hospital lobby or any other government facility.
