Calaveras County Theft Leads To Amador Arrest

A Calaveras County theft, led to an Amador County arrest.  According to the Amador Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, a Calaveras County resident had his wallet, containing credit cards and money, stolen from his vehicle in Valley Springs.   Later that day, the stolen credit cards were used to make several large purchases at GameStop and Lowe’s in Martell and the ACSO was notified.   The responding Amador Sheriff's deputy while completing his investigation, identified 27-year-old Stephen Smith and his 24 year-old girlfriend, Shawna Cummings as possible suspects.   Amador Sheriff’s detectives following up on the case did a probation search of the couple’s home with the assistance of Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office detectives.   As a result of the search, all of the property purchased was found and seized.  Smith and Cummings were also found to be in possession of additional stolen property and narcotics.   The two confessed to the crimes and were ultimately arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Jail.
