Amador's First "Big Box" Store To Close This Fall

Amador County’s first “big box” store will close its doors for good later this fall. The Kmart store on Wicklow Way in Martell is on the short list of stores slated for closing. 4 other California Stores were also on the list. Earlier today Sears Holdings announced the company has informed associates at 28 Kmart stores they will be closing later this year as the company continues to transform its business model so that the companies physical store footprint and digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of customers. According to a company news release, all of these stores will close in mid-November except for one in Florida that will close in mid-December; also eligible associates impacted by these store closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sear’s store. Liquidation sales will begin as early as August 31 at these closing stores.
