More Bad News For Vonna Hughes

There’s more bad news for Vonna Hughes, the co-owner of the Angels Camp Pet Bath House. The conditional use permit for the business where three dogs went missing may be revoked following a unanimous vote by the Angels Camp Planning Commission. However, because the next scheduled meeting is within 30 days, the planning commission will likely not hold the hearing until the November meeting. Hughes’ business has been the focus of controversy since July following the disappearance of 3 dogs. 2 of the dogs later turned up, but the remains of the third dog were discovered by a utility company worker. Hughes was initially arrested on July 8th and charged with six felony charges related to cruelty to animals, stealing an animal for commercial use and grand theft of over $950. She posted bail the following day, and then missed her first arraignment date. That same day, Hughes was arrested again and booked into Calaveras County jail. She once again posted bail the following day. A new arraignment date was set for Oct. 6.
