Big Rig Loses Its Breaks On 88 Yesterday Afternoon

The quick actions of a big rig driver help prevent a serious accident on Highway 88 yesterday afternoon. According to reports, just before 2, a big rig hauling dirt westbound on Highway 88 lost its breaks in the vicinity of Antelope Drive. The driver seeing that Caltrans was working on the highway with one-way traffic control and a line of cars ahead of him, sounded his horn and steered his truck to the left to miss the line of cars and then jumped from the cab of the truck. The truck continued past the line of traffic and off the highway near Knobb Hill Court, over an embankment crashing into large trees and brush. The driver was air lifted to a valley trauma center with possible leg and head injuries. This crash is still under investigation by CHP.
