CUSD Teachers Are Back In Class

CUSD Teachers Are Back In Class

The teachers in the Calaveras Unified School District are back in school after a four-day strike. Calaveras Unified  Educator’s Association members overwhelming ratified tentative agreement with the school district 118 to 4. The new contract includes language that will help decrease class size and create safe schools and made changes to the salary schedule that will help attract and retain qualified teachers.

The deal includes a restructured salary schedule specifically designed to attract new teachers to Calaveras. All told, teachers will see a 2-6% raise, depending upon where they are on the salary schedule. CUEA and CUSD have been negotiating since March of 2016 and the teachers’ contract expired in June.

CUEA members went out on strike October 19 over unresolved disputes concerning class size, school safety issues and pay.
