Amador And Calaveras Voters Cast Ballots

Yesterday was Election Day across the Country and in Amador and Calaveras Counties voters in 3 special districts cast ballots.  In Amador County voters in the River Pines Utility District went to the polls, or in this case the mailbox, to elect 3 directors. Patrick Henery, Roscoe “Rocky” Raymond and Mark Etter were all elected.   In the race for the Ione Memorial District, voters elected Jerry McCarthy, Dave Corsaletti and Jerry Gold to 3 seats.  Ione voters had the choice of mail-in or in person ballots and according to the Election Department, an over whelming number chose mail-in ballots.  County wide, out of the 4 precincts to vote in this year’s election, 1 in River Pines and 3 in Ione, there are 4,565 registered voters and only 1,041 cast ballots for a 22.8 percent turnout.

In Calaveras County only one item went before the voters, Measure E, a special tax proposed to help cover emergency responder costs within the Central Calaveras Fire and Rescue Protection District.  The Measure received only 61 percent of the vote, falling just short of the necessary 66 percent to pass.  424 voted in favor of the tax, while 277 voters against it.  The measure would have imposed a $75 parcel tax throughout the district.  According to the Calaveras county Elections department, just 703 of the 2,093 registered voters in the district showed up for the election, for a 34 percent turnout.
