Names Released In Freak Bear Vs. Vehicle Fatality 

The names of the mother and daughter killed in a freak bear vs. vehicle accident were officially released this morning. According to the CHP, 27 year old Sarah Rae Rohde and her 19 month-old daughter Ariana Harris were both killed in the collision. Rohde along with her daughter and 4 year old son, Julian Harris, were traveling westbound on Highway 4 near Vallecito around 6 PM when a bear ran onto the Highway in front of their vehicle. Rohde was unable to stop, striking the bear. The animal was thrown over the hood and through the car’s windshield. Rohde was pronounced dead on the scene, while her daughter was pronounced dead at Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andreas. Rohde’s son Julian was flown to U.C. Davis for treatment of his injuries. The CHP reports alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the this collision.
