The Amador School Board Addresses A Number Of Issues

The Amador School Board dealt with a wide range of issues at its meeting last night. Susan Ross was elected to serve as Board President for the upcoming year. However the Board reached an impasse when trying to elect a member to the Board Clerk position, when all present Board members declined to be nominated for the position.   The Board voted 3-1 approving a resolution that endorses Delaine Eastin, former California State Superintendent of Public Instruction as the governor candidate that is the best for public education in the state.

The Board approved a consulting contract to fill the position of Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.  Sabrina Greiten has been out on medical leave since September, with it unknown when she will return.   The Board received good news during a report on the District’s ongoing energy conservation project, as the project contractor reporting a cost savings of close to a million dollars, the Board is now discussing addition projects that can be undertaken, such as providing the gyms new air conditioning units.    An update to the District’s budget shows the District just barely keeping the required level of fiscal reserves despite rising expenses due to increase revenue from higher student enrollment and transferring funds among the District’s accounts.
