Two Amador County Men Injured In Calaveras County Plane Crash

Two Amador County men were injured yesterday in a Calaveras County plane crash. According to the Calaveras Sheriff’ Office, about 1:45pm Deputies and First Responders were dispatched to a reported plane crash off Hogan Dam Road located at a private air strip.   Upon deputies arrived they found that both occupants had managed to get out of the plane and were receiving medical attention from first responders already on scene.  A witness reported to have seen the low flying airplane and believed it may have clipped a tree near the end of the runway.  It is also unknown if the plane was taking off or landing at the time of the crash.  The plane is a 1981 Cessna fixed wing single engine air craft.  The pilot, identified as a 72 year old male from Lake Camanche and the passenger, a 75 year old male from Pine Grove, were both taken by air ambulance helicopter to valley hospitals. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.  The cause of the crash has not been determined. Sheriff’s investigators were at the crash site and working with the Federal Aviation Administration.
