Local Teacher Taken Into Custody Yesterday

Former Amador High School Teacher Marc Yonan was taken into custody yesterday following violations of the terms of his pre-trial release.  Yonan faces several misdemeanor charges following his arrest by the Sutter Creek police department at Amador High School in early October following an alleged confrontation between Yonan and a student in which Yonan was suspected of being intoxicated.  He was scheduled for a pretrial conference before Judge Renee Day in Amador Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon, but failed to appear.  He did appear at a hearing Thursday morning before Judge Hermanson.  The County prosecutor stated that Yonan had violated the terms of his release by not checking in with County probation at the appointed times.  Yonan had been released on his own recognizance without bail. Yonan's defense attorney blamed his client's presence in a rehab facility and taking medication for alcohol dependency for the missed phone calls.  Hermanson was unmoved by this argument, and ordered Yonan placed back into custody and held on a $25,000 bond.  Yonan was then handcuffed and led away by sheriff deputies.  His next scheduled court date will be in two weeks.
