Coroner Id's Pioneer Auto Accident Victims

The Amador County Coroner’s office has identified two pioneer residents killed in an early morning auto accident as 37 year old Judy Irene Powell and 11 year old Courtney Alexis Turner.  According to the CHP, around 6am Saturday morning the Powell was driving a1998 Saturn, westbound on Hwy 88 east of Dew Drop Road.  Noel Tenney, also of Pioneer, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 88 east of Dew Drop in a Toyota 4Runner.  For an unknown reason Powell allowed her vehicle to cross over the double yellow lines and proceeded over two eastbound traffic lanes and onto the south dirt shoulder of Hwy 88.  Tenney saw the oncoming vehicle on the south dirt shoulder ahead of him and steered into the fast lane from the slow lane to give the vehicle more room.  Powell then steered her vehicle back to the right and crossed from the south shoulder back into the traffic lanes and directly into the path of Tenney.  The vehicles then struck head-on.  Powell and Turner were pronounced dead at the scene.  Tenney sustained a broken right hand as a result of the impact.  The accident blocked the entire roadway for over an hour.  The incident is under investigation.
