A Hit And Run Causes Major Water Leak In Calaveras County

A hit and run accident brought out law enforcement and Calaveras County Water District Crews yesterday. According to reports, late Wednesday morning a vehicle struck a fire hydrant on Garner Place, and fled the scene, resulting in a major leak. Initially, the leak impacted water service to more than 150 customers. Fortunately, CCWD crews were able to reroute the water supply to a portion of the impacted area while crews worked throughout the afternoon to complete repairs and restore water service to all customers. Even though CCWD crews flushed the system using hydrants to remove discolored water and air from the main lines, some may remain in customers’ personal plumbing systems. It’s important to remember that even if the water is discolored, it is completely safe to drink and poses no health risk. If customers do experience discolored water and would like to flush their personal plumbing systems to remove it, CCWD customer service says to turn on an outside faucet at the lowest point of their properties and let it run until the water turns clear. Anyone with questions or concerns about this repair may call customer service at 754-3543.
