Calaveras High Student Arrested For Perceived Threats Involving A Gun

A Calaveras High student was arrested yesterday after making what officials perceived were threats involving a gun.  Calaveras Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the High School campus yesterday after the student had mentioned bringing a firearm to campus.  According to the Sheriff’s office, it was reported that during a discussion regarding lock down drills and school safety, a 15 year old male student was heard making statements similar to “I guess I better not bring a gun that day”.  This same student was overheard talking about guns in another conversation.   School staff was made aware of the comments and notified the Sheriff’s Office.  Deputies conducting the investigation confirmed that there was no specific expressed threats made and no weapons in the student’s possession.  Deputies arrested the student, removing him from campus and transported him to juvenile probation and contacted his parents.  In a statement released yesterday the Sheriff’s Office confirmed their commitment to completing full and immediate investigations involving threats and/or weapons at local schools, saying that inappropriate comments or statements, whether students think they are a joke or made as a threat, will be taken seriously with just and seriousconsequences.
