Hughes To Stand Trial On Multiple Felony Animal Cruelty And Grad Theft Charges

After two days of preliminary proceedings, Calaveras County Superior Court Judge Timothy Healy ruled yesterday, that Vonna Hughes, the owner of the Pet Bath House in Angels Camp will stand trial on multiple felony animal cruelty and grand theft charges. Following more than two and a half hours of testimony, Judge Healy upheld three counts of felony animal cruelty.  Healy additionally ruled that two counts of grand theft could also proceed to trial.  Hughes was arrested on July 8, 2017, and charged three counts of felony animal cruelty, stealing an animal for commercial use, two counts of grand theft, and one misdemeanor animal cruelty charge.  Hughes has denied the charges against her.  Healy scheduled an arraignment for March 26 and chose not to raise Hughes’ bail amount because she had consistently attended her hearings.
