The ACR Is Set To Begin Rail Car Rides Starting This Weekend

The Amador Central Railroad is set to begin its second year of rail car rides this weekend. If you have ever wondered what it was like riding the rails through the open range land of Amador County, back in the early 1900’s, here is your opportunity. The public can now experience a part of Amador County history the 2nd Saturday of each month, weather permitting. The rail cars, called speeders, leave the station at 10 A.M., 12 P.M., or 2 P.M. and travel east over the Ione trestle crossing above Highway 88, then through “the shale cut” and on to Sunny Brook turning pad where the cars are turned for the return trip. Tickets are $10 per person and children must be five years or older. Ticket sales begin at 9:15 A.M. at Lanes Station on Highway 104 at the railroad crossing about 2 miles south of Ione. Tickets are first come first serve.
