Isiah Fowler Faces A Retrial For The 2013 Stabbing Death Of His Sister

Three months after an appeals court overturned his murder conviction; Isiah Fowler faces a retrial in the 2013 stabbing death of his 8-year-old sister, Leila Fowler. The Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office has decided to prosecute Fowler again.  A trial date is expected to be set Tuesday afternoon, and the retrial could begin in mid-June. The state Court of Appeal for the Third Appellate District overturned Fowler’s conviction nearly three months ago, concluding that two of four interviews he gave to law enforcement officials following his sister’s death should have been deemed inadmissible for use in his 2015 trial.  Calaveras County Superior Court Judge Thomas A. Smith found him guilty in 2015 and sentenced him to eight years at a youth correctional facility. Fowler has always maintained his innocence .Fowler remains in custody at the El Dorado County Juvenile Hall.   Retired Amador County judge, Susan Harland, has been selected to preside over the retrial.  As in the first trial, the judge, in this case Harland will render the verdict at the conclusion of the proceeding.
