CAL-Fire Crews Respond To Four Escaped Debris Burns In Calaveras

CAL-Fire Crews responded to four escaped debris burns last week in Calaveras County that were sparked by illegal burns. Citations were issued to property owners for oversized burn piles, lack of clearance around a pile, no one attending the fire and not having a permit to burn. The escaped debris burns were on Sun Road in Mountain Ranch, Cheyenne Road in Copperopolis, South Burson Road in Valley Springs and Blue Mountain Road in Wilseyville. Three iof the fires spread to nearby vegetation and the other burned a 10 ft. by 20 ft. size spot fire that almost burned the homeowner’s vehicle. As warm days and dry vegetation draw closer, CAL Fire reminds us all of the simple rules of debris burning: maintain 10 feet of clearance around the burn pile…a maximum pile size of 4 feet in diameter…a responsible person in attendance at all times, with a shovel and a water supply, until the fire is out cold…and make sure it is a permissive burn day.
