The 4-Day run of the 2018 Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee kicks off today. This year marks the 90 anniversary of annual jump. The first Frog Jump was staged in Angels Camp in 1928 to celebrate the paving of Main Street and the event has grown to international prominence over the past 90 years. This year is also 32nd anniversary of the Frog Jump World’s Record which was set by the late Lee Giudici and his frog Rosie the Ribiter in 1986 with an unprecedented jump of 21 feet, five and ¾ inches. The Fair will officially open at 8 this morning. At 10 a.m., the Youth Parade will proceed through downtown Angels Camp. In the afternoon starting at 2 p.m., the Saddle Queen competition will take place in the arena. In the evening, the next Miss Calaveras will be crowned at the end of the pageant that starts at 8 on the Main Stage. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Fair Office.
