Amador County Fair Wine Tasting 

Grace Patriot Wines’ “Fashionably Late” 2017 blend of Pinot Gris and Muscat, was awarded Best of Show in the annual Amador County Fair Wine Competition. Renwood Winery was named Sierra Foothills Winery of the Year. A record number of wines were entered this year.  By the end of the day of judging 461 medals were awarded in a single blind, Danish system of judging.  There were 30 Double Golds awarded, 67 Golds, 209 Silvers, and 155 Bronzes.   More than 500 wines were entered in the competition.  Other top awards included; Best Amador Zinfandel went to Amador Cellars, Zinfandel 2015 and Best Amador Italian Wine to Story Winery’s Primitivo 2016.   According to competition director Jamie Wibbenmeyer, a record number of wines were submitted from all over the region.  She added, the judges were impressed with the depth and quality of the Sierra Foothills wines that were entered.  Again this year, more than 40 of the top winemakers of the 2018 competition will be pouring at the annual Amador County Fair Wine Tasting event, Friday, July 26, 7:00-9:00 pm.  Tickets are $35 which includes a commemorative goblet and appetizers.  Only 350 tickets will be sold this year.  Early purchase is recommended.
