An Armed Robbery And High Speed Chase Leave Four Men In Cuffs And One Deceased In Calaveras County 

Calaveras Sheriff’s Deputies arrested four men after a reported armed robbery. Around 6:45 Sunday evening the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an armed robbery that occurred just outside of Murphys. The caller reported being robbed at gun point by multiple male subjects and that multiple vehicles were involved in the robbery. The victims reported that cash, marijuana, a white van, and other personal property were taken during the robbery. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office put out a “Be On The Lookout” broadcast for the suspects and vehicles over the radio system. A Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputy patrolling the Valley Springs area located a group of vehicles matching the description traveling westbound on Highway 12 just outside of Valley Springs. The deputy sheriff initiated a traffic stop on a suspected black Range Rover. The vehicle took off and pursuit began. CHP joined in the pursuit, which travelled westbound on Highway 12 near Double Springs Road. During the pursuit for unknown reasons one occupant, an unknown black adult male, exited the vehicle while it was still traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued off of Highway 12 where it collided with some small trees and a fence. Two additional black male subjects took off running from the vehicle after it stopped. Both medics and fire were called to the scene. The first black male subject was pronounced deceased at the scene by medic units on scene. Evidence of the robbery was located near the subjects body on the side of the roadway. During this same time additional sheriff’s deputies were responding to the scene and located the white van that was taken from one of the robbery victims travelling in front of the suspects black Range Rover. Deputies stopped the white van and arrested two additional black males. A large amount of evidence was located in the van tying these suspects to the robbery. At the time of writing four suspects were arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Jail. The exact charges and are bail are still pending.

With an additional two suspects still believed to be at large. The suspects were booked on multiple charges of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robberies, assault with a deadly weapon, felony battery with great bodily injury, kidnapping, false imprisonment and torture. Due to the death of one of the subjects, the sheriff’s office will be reviewing potential homicide charges with the District Attorney’s Office.
